All students undertake to:
1. Maintain strict confidentiality within any therapeutic relationship consistent with the good care of any individual involved in that therapeutic relationship and the laws of the land and ensure that any client notes and records be kept secure and confidential. Confidentiality must be observed at all times unless:
(a) it is in the best interest of the individual involved in the therapeutic relationship to disclose relevant information;
(b) the individual concerned has given their permission to disclose;
(c) where the law requires disclosure;
(d) when sharing information with other professionals or students. In the latter case especially the individual's anonymity must be guaranteed;
Students must note that the question of confidentiality also applies any audio or video recording.
2. Never promise a cure for any condition or problem, nor give advice or otherwise pass comment on any medical, psychiatric, or psychological problem or condition unless they have training and qualifications in these fields.
3. To use hypnosis only for those purposes in which they have been trained.
4. Be aware of their own limitations and experience and whenever appropriate, be prepared to refer an individual on to a suitably qualified practitioner who might reasonably be expected to offer suitable treatment.
5. Ensure as far as possible that wherever an aspect of an individual's psychological or physiological condition is either known or suspected to be beyond their area of expertise, the individual be advised to seek medical or other appropriate advice.
6. Always obtain written permission from an individual (or individual's parents/guardians if appropriate) before recording client sessions by any method other than written notes.
7. To make no false claims of competence beyond their current level of training.
8. Make no claim that they hold specific qualifications unless such claim can be totally substantiated.
9. Conduct themselves at all times in such a way that neither undermines public confidence in the process or profession of hypnotherapy and/or psychotherapy nor brings the reputation of HYPNOSENSE or Terence Watts into disrepute.
10. To never publicly criticise or malign another member of the profession, either with or without perceived justification.
11. Not to attempt to use hypnosis for entertainment purposes throughout the duration of their studies.
